The Flash-Butt Welding process produces a forge-type butt weld between two metal pieces of similar section shape. It is used to join ends of rods, bars, strips, rings, tubes, forgings and fittings.

Type B-3 and B-5 butt welders are designed for flash welding ferrous and non-ferrous materials. B-3 welders are furnished with pneumatic horizontally pivoting clamps, and are available with a pneumatic upsetting mechanism.

B-5 welders are furnished with hand or pneumatic horizontally pivoting clamps or as an alternative, pneumatic horizontal slide clamps. They are manufactured with motor driven or pneumatic/hydraulic upsetting mechanisms.
