Coil Width: 18" to 80" (457 mm to 2030 mm)
Coil Thickness: .006" to .160" (0.05 mm to 4.0 mm)
Applications: Taylor-Winfield
Limited Overlap Welders are available in two configurations -- single row type or double row type -- for processing lines where a welded joint of double the strip thickness is acceptable and where strip
surfaces are free from rust and scale. They are often preferred over spot welders because of their greater welding speed and low electrode maintenance. Over 170 Limited Overlap Welders have been
delivered to metalworking plants around the world.
Description: In Limited Overlap Welding, the strip ends are overlapped from 5/8" to 2" (15.8 mm to 50.8 mm), depending on strip
thickness, with a single or double row of seam welds applied to form a strong connection between two coil ends.
Since the most common application is to eliminate the costly task of individually
threading each new coil through a processing line, the double-thick joint is of little consequence.
The Limited Overlap Welders produce joint seams where the current is interrupted at measured
intervals to produce evenly spaced short seam welds. All machines are operated in this manner to obtain maximum possible welding speed on thin gauge strip. Also, with optional drive and control features,
the welding wheels can be stopped intermittently so that spot welds are made at each dwell. This alternative is used for the heavier gauges in which spaced welds of best quality cannot be made while the
welding wheels are moving.
All units are equipped with gauging and clamping mechanisms for preparing the strip for welding. An optional entry-side, single-cut shear and exit-side indexing clamp
for trimming and indexing the tail end of the running coil can also be furnished.
